Penang Food Heritage 2011

Thanks to Vin for inviting me to join the Penang Heritage Food Trail 2011 which is organized by YourFoodReview.com. It's been a pleasure to be in it.

We get to explore the Penang novel restaurant within Georgetown UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Moreover, I had the chance to meet other penang bloggers there as well.

We get to dine and taste their dishes.

And the more excited part is there were reality game show where we need to dare other participants to earn points. The one who has the most points will get the HTC Wildfire S.

I do enjoyed our dining at both restaurants as i only joined at one of the episode. For more details about our experience, please refer to my previous posts about Cafe 55 and Nolstagie.

Nolstagie Cafe and Boutique Hotel, Penang

The next station for the Penang Heritage Food trails is the Nolstagie Cafe & Boutique Hotel, along Stewart Lane as well. It is within the project George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It was good that they reburbish the building while preserving the heritage kinda structure that Penang is famous for as 'Penang Heritage City'. It has those neo-classical architecture that resembles the origin of the Pearl of Orient.

It was a great concept of business that it has Restaurant and Hotel rooms on the top floor. This is convenient for their hotel guests to enjoy good food as well.

The ambience is definately resembles the classic old houses; indeed it's a nice place to bring friends or family members for chit-chatting.

It has another corner with some comfy chairs at the second living hall. It has also an open-air in the center of the house as to ensure good air circulation around the house.

Pizza Chicken and Feto RM28.

It is thin crust with basil pesto,cherry tomatoes, mozzarella and feta cheese.

This is Chicken and Basil Pesto Fettuccine RM21. Its cooked with virgin olive oil. Additionally it is served with pan-fried chicken breast and some cherry tomatoes.

The pizza has lotsa topping with the fresh shrimps. Its filled with mozzarella, tomato sauce and tops with some fresh basil leaves.

Prawns and Chilis RM30.

Spaghetti Marinara with Prawns RM24.

Capturing my interest was the pan-fried fresh prawns that are cooked with marinara sauce and topped with cheese. You might wonder what is marinara sauce. It is a southern Italian tomato sauce which the ingredient are usually the tomatoes, garlic, herbs and onion.

It is satisfying to have the meal with chilled juice, such as the Cranberry Longan RM9.

For coffee lover, you may order the Iced Café Latte RM7. They do have others as well, likewise the Espresso Double Shot, Capuccino, Iced Mocha. If you like the local coffee, they do have the Kopi O and the White Coffee to be served either hot or cold.

Most of us will wait for the best part, the dessert. We had their mastery recipe of the Carrot Cake filled with toasted walnuts and raisins, coated with cream cheese frosting.

Coffee Atelier : 55 Cafe & Restaurant at Stewart Lane

I was one of the lucky one to be able to join the Penang Heritage Food Trail. We had a great chance to have our food review at the Coffee Atelier situated at Stewart Lane. I had wanted to try the meal at this café which used to be known as Kopi Cine before this ; when I passed by during the Canon Marathon last year.

I had a great start on my Saturday lunch, being greeted by the organizer Vin Lim and of course the friendly lady boss from Hong Kong named Lorita. We were brief first by the Outlet Manager, John about the Coffee Atelier origin.

One must be wondering why is it name as Atelier? What does it mean? It defines the french words for workshop. This relates to the collection of the 5 interlinked shophouses which ranges from Cafe to Coffee Museum to Art Gallery and Boutique Hotel. this Coffee Atelier was bought over by the Gehrig’s couple, Stefan Gehrig & Lorina. The idea is indeed a good concept of preserving the Penang heritage culture.

When we step in 55 Café & Restaurant, I had a homey feeling as if I’m back to my old house. Mediterranean dishes were serves here.

First of all, we had our Appetizer of the Cold Cut Platter consist of the fresh salami, French ham, smoked pork rib eye, meat balls as the main ones, with some side dishes of the pickles and some bread to eat with. The slices of the salami and ham were cut just at the right thickness for the bread bites.

Next is the Cheese platter. Those who are familiar with cheese will know. It has Gruyer, Emmentaler, Brie and Gorgonzola. This normally comes together with pickles and bread as well.

A nice corner for chit chatting.

Of course, never forget the Spanish dish, Tapas. They serves Cold and Hot Tapas. This time we tried the Hot Tapas called Gambas Aljillo. It has big fresh shrimp cooked with turmeric, dried chillis and thin slices of garlic, sprinkled with some bean sprout on top. It was somewhat I would describe as delectable. You should try, it’s sure a mouth watering dish. RM16

And also the Albondigas con Salsa de Tomato. A mouthful of the pork meatball gives a tantalizing taste of satisfaction. Good combination with some white raddish and peppery as the toppings. This costs RM13.

Next one is called Gambas Capane. It's was crispy bread wrapped with shrimp which gives a zesty feeling.

Grilled Eggplant could be a favourite dish for those who like brinjals. It’s flavoured with some basils and some slight spicy taste at the end.

Next is the strong tasting of the Champignons which are stewed with whole piece of Garlics and tomato sauce.

Pastas pastas is next. We had the Carbonara Spaghetti filled with bacon, mushroom egg and parmesan cheese. I bet you, with just the first mouthful, you could feel the tasteful creamy feeling. It’s just lip-smacking…and the price is reasonable, just RM24.

Next is the Aglio Olio Spaghetti which served with smoked salmon, extra virgin olive oil , some garic chips and parsley. The fresh salmon gives the extra point for this.

The next unique one is called Al Gorgonzola Penne with Rucola salad and mini tomatoes. It’s quite a rich pasta dish with the more known as the blue cheese in the sauce. It’s quite worth to try with some extra gain on the calories. However, not to worry, you could order this as a sharing for maybe 4 pax.

Good choice for vegetarian, you may order Siciliana Spaghetti. It’s cooked with Eggplant, onions,basils in tomato sauce, with some parmesan cheese on the top.

They do serves varieties of Coffees, Tea and other beverages.

We had a try on their Long Black, Café Latte, Café Mocha. It was aromatic.

They do serves the signature coffee from Kim Guan Coffee beans as well.

Accompanying with savory desserts are the best.

Pudding with Apple filling.

We are pleased to have a tour around the boutique hotel as well.

SiTigun at Nagore Street, Penang

After having a great time by the pool, we went to Si Tigun for a coffeebreak. I just knew that it moved to another shop in the same street. Now, it's situated directly opposite the Continental Bakery.

I like SiTigun concept they have with those wooden chairs n tables. I have the feeling of having a nice coffee in those old classic house..it has those distinctive architecture of the Peranakan culture.

You will sure feel relax and it's a great choice if you would like to have a nice place for friends or even family members for a good chitchat place...

Moreover, the lady boss were very friendly and the waiter are quite alert upon attending to our requests.

Our initial intention is to have the Tiramisu cake here. But, to our disapointment, the last Tiramisu cake was reserved by their customer...

However, they have nice coffee brew as well. I had the Cappuccino, so aroma..

We wouldn't want to miss any good cakes SiTigun serves there.

Thus, we ordered the Chocolate Mousse and also the Apple Pie with Vanilla ice-cream.

The Apple pie was so origin, it has a lot of apple fillings in it. The pastry was a bit crispy and hard mixed with the soft apple filling...It was a splendid combination with warm pie and cool ice-cream..Yum yum :p

I will sure go again for the Tiramisu cake on my next visit to SiTigun.

Had a great time at Paddington House of Pancakes at Queensbay after a satisfying shopping spree...

My friend had this Strawberry Pancake; layered with luscious peaches and those sweet strawberries..We could also top with some honey to dulcified the pancakes...;p

I like this Banana Pancakes. It has those slices of sweet bananas that combines with some shredded coconut which are a bit salty..It was mouth watering...believe me.

We can do the same thing; we can pour some honey on it as well..If you want something extra...

Trip to Pulau Aman

It was a year ago that a group of us would want to go over to Pulau Aman. Finally, i went there last weekend. We depart from the Jetty around 1030am. At first i thought we had missed the boat as i have checked the website the boat to Pulau Aman timing is 10am and the next trip is 1pm. And the thing is that the shcedule we saw from website was referring to weekdays.

For weekend, the trip will depends on the crowd.

We jumped into the boat..to our surprises when about to reach Pulau Aman, we saw that there was a school there, namely Sekolah Kebangsaan Pulau Aman. And it was quite a big building though.

Once reached Pulau Aman Jetty, we started to find ways to go around this small village. And it seems it has been a local spot now. They have this nicely printed map just on the pathway after the jetty towards the village.

We start our morning walk along the way; taking photographs. We are enjoying ourselves there. Having a feel of living in villages. There were small atap houses, small mini market, many houses where they do business as well-it became a coffee shop and also area where they prepare lunch for big families among them-there were big pots and pans and also big wok...

Along the pathway, we saw this nice atap houses. Here we saw a few teenagers resting in the houses, while we were having a good time taking nice photos...

Besides that, we saw some polytechnic school students had some activity there. They were having this process of removing the 'siput'...quite interesting and of course, be prepare your hand to be dirty and it sure stinks as well...:)

We found this area where people catch clams...

And what we did, we had a nice jumping shot here...hehe ;p

Then, after 1.5 hours of walking and jumping, we searched for our Mee Udang...

To our surprises, it was full house...We had to stand around tables to grab our seats..

After about 15minutes, we got our seats..and there we go, we had our order taken...

Here came our Mee Udang...Look quite nice but it was a very small portion...Only 3 pieces of the prawns and little portion of the noodles...

We ordered additional Koay Teow Goreng to share..It was quite yummy also..

This followed by a soothing coconut water...the young coconut flesh was nice though..having our great time there...

No worries on the boat ride as there have more rides during the weekend...

And after a satisfying lunch there, we headed back to the jetty..

Portofino Western Cuisine at Batu Feringhi

My friend recommend us to try out the lunch at Portofino, Batu Feringhi.

The entrance to this Portofino is just before the Tarbush Restaurant. Turn in to the entrance just before the Tarbush board. There's ample car park lots inside.

It was quite a niceplace though as we can view the beach side and also enjoying the sea breeze while dining there.

The below is Beef Kebab..

It has various sauces. I like the Spicy Mint sauce and the Tamarind Sauce. It goes well with the Chicken Kebab and also the Grilled Chicken.

We enjoyed the sitting there enjoying chit chatting and watching all those sports activities by the beach. There's banana boat ride, jet skiing, parasailing....

You may enjoy leisure time with your friends for a drink during the night time after a brisk walk along the Night market at Batu Feringhi..

We were invited to a Product Review at Austin Chase for another session. Here, we were given more information about CSL DS700 and introduction about Spice CSL.

I was around Butterworth area and wonder where i can have a nice dinner. Make a call to my friend and she recommended me to go to this Butterworth Cafe.
Hard to find the cafe even though it's along the mainroad. We would target the St. Mark school as the landmark to find this cafe. It's next to the entrance of the St.Mark school.

First thing my friend did remind me to order the Tomato Soup, highly recommended by her.Yes, i agree with her..The tomato soup tasted really original, pure tomato which comes together with the garlic bread which was crispy hot..

I ordered the Chicken Maryland, one of their signature dish.

It was a good one...

My friend ordered the Grilled Salmon Fish dish..the black pepper sauce is nice though...

They do serves pasta, pizza and tiramisu cake...;)

As understood, this Butterworth Cafe was established since year 1958, and that time they used to have australian customers...

Weissbräu German Bistro & Bar at Straits Quay Penang-Part 2

This time we get to tried the german way of preparing pizza. It's the traditional alsatian flammkuchen, the original taste they had is sour cream and onions without mozzarella cheese.

Indeed it does satisfy our appetite, with some lightly marinated curried chicken cubes. The combination comes with a very thin hand tossed crust.

To accomodate some of the local people here, they so served pizza with an italian touch. Toppings are the same except it uses homemade tomato paste as the base with mozzarella cheese.

They prepared their new recipes which are not in their menu yet at this moment. It's our pleasure that we get the taste of it.

It's the Herb Sausage and Chili Sausage....a zesty flavoursome i would say..

The sausages were made using sheep casing which gives a compatible level of toothsome with the fresh pork which blend well with herbs. The rich aroma of the whole combination gives the satisfaction i'm looking for..And remember to eat it while it's HOT...!! It does make the difference..

After 1 bite...see...yummy yummy..

And to accomodate most of the Asian taste which most of us would prefer spicy stuff...thus, here comes the Chili sausages..Had the first bite, and you could feel the zesty hot taste in your tongue....however, the aroma of the meat and herbs are still there...

Next we enjoyed the Erdinger Weissbier. I've understood that Erdinger does call itself the world's largest wheat beer brewery. It's widely available and popular across Germany and the European Union.

I do enjoyed the Erdinger Weissbier, the fine and smooth taste of the beer is just splendid. Great to have this beer while having the sausages. It goes well...

The price is RM17.00++ (300ml) , RM29.00++ (500ml). Options: Tower or 2500ml is also available at RM135.00++

Lastly, the Dessert came..A good choice of dessert they have for us...

The Chocolate Mousse blended in VSOP for richness with Pear as the topping...

It's nice to eat it while it's chilled....superb dessert...

Rainforest Bakery Penang

Rainforest Bakery, it's very well known bakery in Penang which serves healthy bread and buns.

The main shop is in Chulia Street. they have another branch in Sungai Ara. It was managed by a friendly twin brothers, named Jesse & Jerry Tan.

The special thing about Rainforest Bakery is that they do deliver the freshly made breads and buns to your doorstep. They have regular customers, local and those expatriates who lives in Penang who ordered from Rainforest Bakery. Besides this, they do have deliver their breads to most of the International schools and also a few prominent hotels.

As explained by Jesse Tan, the breads and buns are freshly made daily. They would not keep their bread and buns overnight. Those balance left at the end of the day, they will send it as a charity.

As for Easter Day celebration, they do have special buns served during this season.

it's called the 'Hot Cross Bun'.

It's a fruity with some superior spices that they imported from Germany. There are 8-9 types of spices ingredients. And the topping is thin layer of some sugar glazing. Rainforest Bakery breads has no preservatives.

The bun is soft yet dense and heavy. It has the taste of the spices with some butter flavoursome. If you wish to have more buttery taste, you may apply some butter as additional filling in the bun. All depends on individual liking.

Next, comes my favourite English Muffins. It's a plain buns and plentiful if you have even one piece of it. It comes with 4 pieces in a pack for Rm4.50.

The traditionally made kind of English Muffins are seasoned with semolina. This semolina originally is soft, and when we baked it, the semolina becomes crunchy. And that makes it unique.

Normally for method to have English muffin is to have various type of toppings and toast it. Then, it's near to perfection, as you will feel the softness of the inner side and the crunchy feeling at the outer side..

This is ideal for breakfast and tea time. We can mix with scramble eggs, with butter and jam or with egg benedict and ham. The below is the muffin with egg benedict, it has Hollanese sauce on top of the egg and also ham.

We may also mix with Honey Roasted bacon with melted red cheese. This combination had slight salty taste..

Besides the above 2 items, they do have other healthy bread, like the Raisin Twist, Bagel Sesame and Bagel Poppy..

Foccacia bread..my favourite too..:)

We had a try on this Chewy Nut Trail Cookie...it's crunchy yet not too dry..it's Devilicious..

Nice to have it during teatime to go with your favourite coffee or tea..

Some freshly made muffins on the shelf too, like the Plum Muffin.

They also have some sweet pastry like the Apple Crumble, Yogurt Limonata cake, Butter Cake, Banana Cake and Brownies.

Other breads and buns are like the Maize Bread, Sour Dough, Malt Bread, Chelsea bun, Walnut Raisin, Scones, French Baguette, Grainy Baguette, Ciabatta, English Bloomer and many others.

Weissbräu German Bistro & Bar at Straits Quay Penang-Part 1

Looking for German food in Penang? Yes, there’s one in Straits Quay called Weissbräu. The interior design built up with wooden frames and stacks of bricks on the wall gives a classical feels about the restaurant. It’s a good choice for family gatherings or friends gatherings.

While waiting for the dishes to be served, we had mineral water called ‘Acqua Panna’ from a natural source from Tuscany, Italy. It’s really refreshing and balsamic…

Here are the dishes we tried and would like to share with you all.

First came the German Sour Bread has the briny taste which maintain the bread moisture. We may just eat it plain or spread some butter on the bread. I would prefer with some butter on it. A rare taste yet it’s appetizing, or I would say it’s the german taste.

Another dish we had is the Mussel Seaman, boiled in a hot pot with some white wine, garlic, shallots and vegetables. When you bit the mussels in your mouth, you could feel that it’s still succulent. Moreover, adding the white wine in the soup does enrich the taste of the Mussel Seaman. This is Weissbräu specialty.

Next, we had the Honey Baked Ham Sandwiched with a German Laugen bread accompanied with a deletable soup Cream of Pumpkin. It’s a all time favourite for most of Weissbräu clients according to Denver.The soup were made from only pumpkins itself; with no additional artificial flavoring in it. Thus, having a bite of the sandwich and a mouthful of the soup was delightful.It combines very well. Besides this Cream of Pumpkin, they have Tomato Soup with Basil leaves for those who loves sour flavorsome. For the bread, you could choose from the list options from the croissant, French baguette, Italian ciabatta, white bread or wholemeal bread.

Introducing this scrumptious meal called the Spaetzli, it’s a homemade german egg noodle tossed in butter flavored. Choices are either had it plain, with ham, with cheese, with mushroom, with ham & cheese or carbonara. We had the it with ham & cheese. After the first mouthful, you won’t resist the second spoonful of the spaetzli..As explained from the manager, the egg noodle were done manually instead of using a machine. This makes the Spaetzli special.

Next, we would recommend the Emmentaler, which is pork sausage lightly crisped skin filled with emmental cheese.

This comes with 2 side dishes with a few selections; One option will be either with potato salad, garlic mash, Spaetzli or Roesti. Another options for vegetables will be either Buttered vegetables or Sauerkraut. You could choose 2 from the above options. If you wish to additional side orders, rm9 will be charged. We had the Potato salad and the buttered vegetables. The potato salad filled with mayonnaise and some vinegary flavoured gives good combination. I like the this. Besides these two, we had a try on the Garlic Mash(refer to the photo below). It is not machine made, as we could still ate some bits of it.

Before that, you may asked what’s the specialty of using this emmental cheese and not others. Answers is because this emmental cheese it’s an aged cheese and it savoured well with other herbs to produce a mouth-watering pork sausages. The thin skin of the sausage is crispy and the inside has the sour tasteful. Those who like the acerbic taste may try this.

We definitely had a try on the Crispy Pork Knuckle.Majority of us would never missed this dish in any german restaurant. The pork knuckle skin is crispy, just the way i like it. The Roesti was appealing too. Its stir-fried slices of potato is indeed delicious. Another side dish, Sauerkraut, the german way of sour cabbage. The shredded cabbage are lacto-fermented. However, this Sauerkraut is mild sour as to accomodate asian taste buds. The one i have tasted before in Germany were stinging sour where many asian won't like it.

Had a cozy friday dinner at this The Sire Museum Restaurant.

While waiting for our drink and the main dish to be served, we have the garlic bread. It was crispy, just the way i like it..although there's a lil' burn at the edge.

So, here is what i ordered:

I had the Mango Ice Blended...the fruity smooth icy blended had quenched my thirst after a hectic day at work...

For the main course, i had Pan-Sealed Red Snapper. It fascinated me when the dish arrived. The presentation were great and definately it look very appealing as well...

The fish were seasoned with salt & pepper, with my favourite garlic cooked with olive oil..Quite worth the price, it was rm29.80.

This is delicious as well..the fish was fresh...:)

I really had a pleasant ans satisfying meal...:)

Since i missed the promo on 1st April, this time i managed to try it..

When it comes to crazy promo, a lot of people will grab it...even there's a long queue..

However, this time quite lucky as my friend went a bit earlier to get seats for us..

We waited for an hour for the Fisn 'N' Chip..

Luckily after a long wait, i would say it's quite worth..

The fish were deep-fried in a way that the outer is crispy and the fish meat it's almost 80% cook. It's just nice...:)

Since i saw some post about it about a few months ago. We decided to have Wilson's birthday at Berlin Bier Houz at Straits Quay in January 2011...hehe..backdated post as i was kinda busy recently...

So, Here are the meals that we ordered there.

We ordered German Fries...however, the sauce seems to be a little more to Indian style curry aroma..as i guess this somehow need to adapt a bit of Malaysian taste somehow.

The sausage set..look tempting huh..Yes, indeed it's delicious..

The Burger set...you could order this ala carte as snack as this is not a big portion.

Look at the Pork Burger...

Berlin's Specialty Pork- the sauce is a mixture of sweet and sour. The sauce is the specialty for this dish.

Besides dining there, it's quite a cool place for chit chatting & leisure...you can play snooker or play darts there while having some nice beer...:)

A Great Christmas & A Happy New Year 2011@Hatyai

This year i celebrated my Christmas & New Year 2011 with my friends at Hatyai.

There we could see Pink & Red Christmas trees around, but surely no White Christmas trees.

It's quite happening here as we could see lots of the local people dressed up for the celebration especially at the city area. You could see people took photographs with the X'mas trees as to have a vivid memory of the joyful celebration of X'mas.

A never missed thing to do in Hatyai is Shopping!!!

We had a great bargain while shopping & of course the spicy and sour Thai food..

We had Meiyi’s Birthday at At the Sun Restaurant called Spring Chamber Restaurant on 12 Nov, it’s a Friday night.

To my surprise, the environment is quite cozy and romantic. It serves fine western cuisine. And of course without any delay, we had our dinner ordered as everyone is hungry already. Most of us had the Set Dinner.

First came the Soup of the Day, it was a mushroom soup.

Next is our Appetizer: Salad with salmon. It quite a big portion for a starter.

Chicken with BBQ sauce(below photo)..Acording to my friend, this was good. The chicken meat were tender and it goes well with the BBQ sauce.

I had this one- Salmon with Japanese Soy Sauce..It was a bit salty and the sauce is too much.

The pizza portion was huge for 1 pax. Would recommend 2 person to share the portion.

My beautiful Saturday started with a fresh morning. Woke up early and getting ready to travel around Langkawi. It’s a Campaign organized and sponsored by the Langkawi Saga Travels & Tours. Once we reached the Swettenhan Pier, we were greeted by Jeff, our friendly tour guide for the day. At 815am, we depart from Penang to Langkawi. There were many foreigners visiting Langkawi with us as well.

Langkawi island is a well known place for a leisure holiday with its treasures of nature like the waterfalls, beautiful beaches, mountains, peaceful mangroves and its unique limestone there. Aside from the nature, its legend are very well known by most of the Malaysians. The story of a Princess Mahsuri who lived in Langkawi during the 14th century and due to the accusation made to her. As a consequences, Mahsuri laid a curse on Langkawi for seven generations.

Langkawi is indeed a popular island among foreigners. Likewise my german friend, he has been travelling to Langkawi twice in six months’ time.
I believe one would never missed the beaches when they step into Langkawi island. Imagine we were sitting by the beach, relaxing while enjoying the breeze of the wind & the serenity of the beaches. Listening to the sound of the waves, forgetting all the hectic time at work.
After a 3 hrs ferry ride, finally we reached Langkawi. We were taken to the Royal Langkawi Yatch Club at Charlie's Place (http://www.langkawiyachtclub.com/dining/charlie-s-place.html )for a nice lunch.

We sat on the platform; admiring the great sight of the marina whilst having our lunch.

After lunch, we headed to our first destination- Langkawi Cable Car.
Unfortunately, when we arrived the cable car had technical problems. Most of the people were seem disappointed. Heard also that most of the time, the cable car has technical problems. We would hope that this will be improved in order to lure more visitors from all over the countries to enjoy the top view from Mat Cincang Mountain(Langkawi second highest peak); overseeing the landscape of the rainforest and beautiful sea.

Our second destination: Underwater World.
First section were those chameleon and other lizards species.

Next are all different kind of fish spesies.

It has FreshWater Fishes there. Saw a unique kind of fish called ‘Tropical Garfish’. The head of it looks like Alligator. It can grow more than 1.6m length. Understood that the distribution are found at mountain area of China, Tibet, Sze Chuan, northern Yunnan and other smaller region of east Asia. See the below photo of it.

Other fishes like Blue Diamond Discus, normally it swims in a group. Same goes to the Midas Cichlid & Red Devil Cichlid fishes.

There are Mantis Prawns, Jelly Fish and Corals also eg. Purple Tube Anemone.

I would that agree that this Underwater World Centre continue to maintains their facilities there, as many creatures from the sea & the ground; birds, animals spesies are conserved there. It encourage people to appreciate nature and promote conservation.

We do had an interesting view of the Spotted Eagle Ray. While it swims around, there were other fishes escorting it around.

For penguin, I learnt that the African Penguins have an average life expectancy of 10-11 years in the wild. They are also known as ackass Penguins due to the ‘donkey-like’ braying sound they make during the courtship.

Next destination is the Mangrove area at Kilim. It took 30mins drive down from the Underwater world. We had the Mongrove Tour to the Bat Cave, Eagle Watching area & Fish Farm.

We stop at the Bat Cave first. Before entering we were warned not to make noise, do not use flash while taking photographs inside the cave and also not to touch the bridges or the stones surrounding. Jeff were explaining regarding the attitude of the bats in the cave. Questions that people normally query,’Why does bat slept upside down?’ It was due to the bat’s wing ,length that varies from 6 inches to 6 feet which cause the bat to have difficulty in standing or walking. Relying on only the strength of its feet is insufficient to bear its body weight for a period of time. Nevertheless, with this body structure, it ease the bats to land or fly whenever needed. For those bats staying in a four season countries, there is fascinating thing about the bats. It manage to stay at the same position for 3 months time while hibernating.
Another advantages of the bat is that we need bats to maintain the chain reaction of the nature.
Besides that,we also observed stalactite and stalagmite in the cave. Jeff explaining to us the formation of the stalactite & stalagmite were from the rich mineral water deposited calcite.

On our path out from the caves, we observed many small roots like the photo shown below.
Questions from many of us, ‘What is that?’ We got the answers from the board which reminds us on the science we have learnt before. There were the respiration roots called Pneumatophores which grow upward. Its tiny pores enable the trees to breath and ensure ample oxygen supply as understood that mangroves is a anaerobic state kind of habitat.
Additional tips given by Jeff was that if we got lost in a jungle, search for those hanging roots, cut off the roots and we shall have water source from there for survival. Interesting!

We hop on the boat & headed to the ‘Eagle Watching’ area. A few boats stop around the area to view the eagles. One of the boat guide throw chicken skins on the lake to feed the eagles. We had vivid view of the eagles flying down to the surface of the lake to take the food. There were different species of eagles such as Brahminy Kite and White Bellied Sea Eagle.

Then, we headed to the Fish Farm.

We were guided by young boy to brief us on the fishes there. First, he showed us the Archer Fish or we call it Water Spitting Fish. The nature of these fish are it will spit water on the food which are unreachable. The young boy placed the breadbits on the nails above the water and this Acrher Fish will spit water as what you see on the below photo (taken from the webpage) for clearer view.

It will spits many times until the breadbits drop. Its so smart.
We saw the Horse Shoe Crabs & Sting Rays.

Next is the feeding to the Spotted Eagle Ray. We observed a foreigner feeding it. Quite interesting part is that its mouth are at the bottom side. It seems trying hard to move above the water to reach for the food given to it.

A bit of the time consume there as there were many students and foreigner visiting this Mangrove Kilim.

Final Destination is to ‘Dataran Lang’. That is where the Langkawi signature “Eagle” sculpture where visitors will never missed also.

We took our group photos of the symbolic Eagle there before headed to Ferry station.

Guang Zhou Trip

Before flying to GuangZhou, my friends helped me to search for places of interest for my short trip this time.
I stayed at LiuHua Road, Guang Zhou. It’s quite a strategic place for me to go around.
There’s 2 Lake & Garden there, Liu Hua Lake & Yue Xiu Lake Garden. First day there, I had a walk around Liu Hua Lake.

Next destination were Beijing Road, recommended by the hotel receptionist. Took a cab there. Wow, the streets were so crowded. Lots of people were having their Sunday weekend there. There were the promoters standing in front of the shops to welcome & attract customer to enter their shops. It’s quite competitive as there were many shops there. You could spent the whole evening till 1030pm there to shop for clothes, accessories, snacks and many more. Over there, you could get the best price if you area good bargainer ;P
A reminder, you will need to remember a landmark where you begin, coz you might get lost after walking many stretch & a few corners.

The below shop has a huge crowd buying snacks. I observed that it has quite a numberof outlets in Guang Zhou and most of the time there were crowds buying the snacks.

And everywhere in GuangZhou, you see the Asian Games 5 Goats sculptures.

Some of the shoplot boutique sells clothes at a moderate price, with quite good quality of the clothes.
After a hectic walk around there, I drop by a café to have my dinner. I ordered Fried Noodle; sort of fried Udon I would say. Quite nice however it’s very oily.
I had Yin Yong Drink.

Night time, the LED lights were light up on the trees, very beautiful…:)

Observed there were Coca-Cola stalls selling many different kinds of Ice Blended Mango, Strawberry and others..It would be nice if Coca-Cola does have variety of drinks selling in Malaysia too..

Surprisingly, the staff had a short briefing before the starts of the biz at nite.

In the middle of the Beijing Road, the remaining stones from many different Dynasty were conserved with transparent glass on the road itself; of course with lighting during the night. This attracts many people from local and foreigner like us to have nice view during our walk there….

There’s this brand 361 degree, 1 of the main sponsors for the 16th Asian Games Guang Zhou 2010, which ended on the 27 Nov. 2010.

When I went off around 10pm, there were still a lot of people there.

Crab Village@Tanjung Bungah and Coffee Island@Gurney

My friend’s friend had this restaurant at Tanjung Bungah & we decided to have a try.
Their speciality are crab dish, we had it roasted. It was indeed very fresh, the crabmeat stuck to the shell.

It’s delicious…Next is the Prawn, we steamed & would like to taste the original taste, it was also
fresh..

We had the fried squid, it’s a small portion only. It’s not crispy enough. Next, we ordered 1 plate of the fried fish. We finished it up quite fast though, coz' it's hot from the wok. 1 was not enough, we ordered another plate.

We had some Scotch Whisky whilst having the seafood..Wow, satisfied :p

Finally, before we left, we managed to take photo of the boss..

As the night is still young, we had our 2nd stop at the Coffee Island. It was crowded.

My friends had 1 round of beers, 1 bucket of Tiger beers. Imagine what will happen after taking liquor, then this soya drink, and then beer...

whilst I just had Hot chocolate..

We had some snacks too, potato wedges n Fried Wantan..

The Red Garden @ Leith Street

Had a try at this Red-Garden at Leith Street, recommendation by my aunt. The ambience was quite nice there, it has many different style of dishes. There are Japanese style, Western style, Philipino, Seafood, Chinese local food and lots more.
My mum & aunt chose the Japanese dish ‘ Saba Fish Rice Set’, it comes with the Jap style soup..It was quite good..My Aunt likes it..

My dad tried the Frog Porridge, the content of the frog meat was not much, maybe it’s a bit expensive, that’s why...However, it was kinda of too big portion for 1 pax. Would recommend to order 1 Claypot of the porridge for 2 pax at least.

I had the Filipino Style..opps cannot remember the name of the dish…the pork was a bit hard for me..would recommend to order chicken for the same sauce. The spaghetti has the elasticity, it’s not too hard nor soft..And the salad was indifferent from others, it has the breadcrumbs on it..

My 2 cousins had the Western Dishes, he ordered the Black Pepper Fish. It came with a plate of salad before the main meal came. The Dory Fish meat was tender. Quite nice & worth the price..

The Fried Oyster was OK.

We did ordered Loh Bak as well. When the seller came with the Loh Bak, he said to us ‘ My specialty Chili sauce sure delicious, if not nice you may return to me’. Wow! Haven’t met such a confident foodstall owner..However, when we all tried the Loh Bak & had a dip on the chili sauce..It was indeed special & a nice combination though. A bit spicy & it has sesame in the chili. You should try it..

Xuan Xin Ramen Kitchen @ Gurney Plaza

Had a weekend lunch at Xuan Xin Ramen Kitchen with my cousin sister. We wander around to look for nice food in Gurney Plaza, and then we came to the Ground Floor (right when you get down the escalator, you’ll see it right in front of you) and saw this Xuan Xin Ramen Kitchen. She recommended me to try this.
And after that, when I was there for a few weekends at Gurney Plaza, saw that this Ramen Kitchen were normally full house.
We had our seat at a corner table. Although it’s not so spacious, the food was good.

I ordered the Ramen with Stewed Pork Ball.. The ramen was soft and it’s just the right texture. Ramen itself doesn’t have much taste normally, and when it combined with the stewed pork, it was just delicious. And there were pieces of the garlic in the soup which bring out the aroma of the soup...

My cousin sister had the Fried Ramen with Pork Belly in Dry Chili Sauce. The taste was great, you could feel that the sauce did absorbed in the ramen & real yummy yummy…

Caffe Strada@Krystal Point@Penang

It's already in my plan to try out Caffe Strada after Alan send out the email on the short review on the Grand Opening of Caffe Strada on 11 June 2010.

And timing was good, Thanks to Alan & wife for the invitation for the review last weekend.

We were welcome by all the warm bloggers when we reached there. And i do felt comfy as the owner & the employees are friendly too.

This is important for customer to feel comfortable while dining. These days, most of the people would prefer to go for good service; besides of course to have delicious meals.

As explained from the owner, when they want to start this Caffe, the idea was to name it as 'Strada', which they would want Italian style kind of restaurant. Originally, Strada has a chain of Italian restaurants in the UK. The origin Strada restaurant do serves freshly prepared dishes using seasonal produce. The menu offers hand stretched pizzas, fresh pastas, risotto and grilled meat and fish dishes. That's how & why they name it 'Caffe Strada'.

First of all, the owner gave some welcoming speech & introduction.

There goes some snapshots of the dishes.

Start with the Appetizer:-Green Garden Salad. As explained by the owner, the salad sauce are special mixed by them.

This is nice.

Seafood Chowder in Bread Bowl..

The chowder does have the seafood taste; however the bread is super-hard for me..

Those like to try Asian meal, this Salted Fish & Chicken Fried Rice is recommended.
Yummy yummy, you could even taste the nice aroma of the salted fish even on the first scoop of the rice...and the combination with their signature BBQ Chicken Wing is nice...

moreover, we could dip the BBQ Chicken wing with the house special hot sauce.

It goes well with the chili sauce & it's quite spicy..and actually 1 piece of the chicken wing is not enough. You could actually order more, Caffe Strada's Fried Chicken Wing.2 pieces for RM5.90 & 4 pieces for RM9.90.

For Western dishes, I would recommend Mongolian Chicken & Grilled Butter Fish(refer to below photo).

Those who like a bit salty taste, you could try this Cheezy Grilled Chicken...

Club Sandwish..Those who just want some light snacks, you could try this.

The interior design of Caffe Strada is nice....Thanks to Allen for the nice photo..

Fluffy Hot Chocolate...

I would say that the chocolate is not so strong, not the usual hot choc we expect it to be..

However, we do asked the owner about their hot choc drink. He explained that the hot choc doesn't use powder form to mix the drink. They uses caramel syrup from DaVinci Gourmet; that's what make the difference. That is the origin taste.

Strawberry Kiss Frappes & Choc Banana Frappe...

For Frappes, i loves most is the Mango Frappes...

Quite nice..

I prefer the Cafe Latte..and not forgetting, a must order dessert 'Caffe Strada's Ice Coffee Slush' ;p

Recommendation by my friend to have a try on the Japanese Food at USJ area. There we go, we started to order our food once reached there.

My friend ordered the Saba Shio Set, i had the Katsudon. We ordered side dishes of Negima(shio), Mentai Potato & Monaka Green Tea Ice-cream.

Katsudon..too bad, the chicken is a bit too hard for me...

Mentai Potato...This is yummy yummy...the mayo sauce is special, and the potato is smooth & soft...;p

KL weekend trip

It was a nice weekend in KL last weekend. I met up with my friends at Sunway Pyramid. We started with a nice shopping first, then around 3pm, i had my tea break & my friend were having her lunch. We decided to give it a try at PappaRich. The menu was quite attractive.

My friend ordered one of the popular meal here which is the Nasi lemak.
The curry was nice though, and the rice is rich with the coconut milk.
We ordered the Toast with Pandan Kaya since this is also recommended dish. The toast was burnt at one corner, this i would say it was not as expected.

Pappa Rich really had lots of Drinks & Dessert choices. We took quite sometime as a lot of them looks yummy...

In the end, i ordered the Pappa Mocha & my friend ordered the Soy Milk Chendol with Redbean.

My friend like the Chendol a lot..or i should say she likes the redbean actually..

Mama's Nyonya@Lorong Abu Siti

This year Mother’s Day, my sister recommend to go to Mama’s Nyonya for dinner. The deco around the walls are those nyonya blouse, photos with popular designer like Jimmy Choo & S’porean star, Phua Chu Kang & others. The ambient was good, however there’s some small mistakes they made. My sister called in to book the day before Mother’s Day & all details were given to the person-in-charge; but it was not taken actually. Anyhow, the lady boss did asked for details while we did booking for her to investigate as they will improve on it. She even apologize & manage to get us a table. Overall, service was good & may need some improvement on taking more attention to customers when they need to be attended.
First, we were given an appetizer. It was Anchovies with Big Onion, ‘chili padi’ & mixed with sweet sour sauce. It was really appetizing. We finished it within seconds..:)

We ordered their famous Ayam Ros which the gravy has santan milk in it. The chicken are tender & gravy are delicious. The taste was just good enough, I would highly recommend you to try.
Next we have the Mango Kerabu Bok Nee. This dish look simple,colorful and taste as good as it is.

We ordered Sambal Sayur Rami, Otak-Otak as well. These 2 dishes were good as well. The sambal sayur rami dish was cooked with belacan and some prawns.

Next is the dish I like most, Chun Piah. It comes together with some special nyonya style sauce for us to dip in.
We really had a satisfying meal. Nice environment for chit chatting as well.
The boss were also friendly. He saw me taking photos & offered to take photos for us..

This is Salmon steak..with the smashed potato & it has the ghee in it..

Spaghetti with roasted chicken strips..The spaghetti is a bit too salty for me...and i don't prefer chicken breast part...

This flower deco on all tables looks nice, it turns from pink to white by days..not sure what type of flower is this..but one thing, it has a very strong scents, which i don't really prefer...

Just yesterday i had dinner at Nordsee in Centrum shopping mall...

This is Asia style with spring rolls & chicken nugget...

It was delicious though..The rice is similar like nasi beriyani, and the combination with spring rolls & nugget is nice..and with the thai style chili sauce..yum yum..

My friend took this, Kostriker. It's quite smooth though...not bad...

And he took this Grilled Fish with Mushroom Cheezy sauce on it..It was also delicious..

My weekend starts with a heavy breakfast...

This is what i have daily for breakfast. It's only during weekend i get to enjoy the breakfast, more time spent....

Before headed to window shop, i had a short rest & relax at hotel lobby...

Then, there i go, to town area to all the shopping malls. Went to Centrum, Karstad & Altmarkt...3 of this shopping mall are just walking distance...And huge crowd as we get warmer in shopping malls & most importantly for ladies, it's big sales now for winter clothing..till 70% discount...for myself, i bought a nice vest from Zara..

Centrum Shopping mall considering quite new, when i was there, there were live band with profesional musicians walking from floors to floors...A huge crowd were looking & enjoying it...

I bought a Movenpick Latte Machiato drink, it was quite nice..

After a long window shop around the shopping malls, I went to try a Vietnamese style dish for dinner..
It was quite nice..nice food with reasonable price..There i go, i tried the Crispy Duck dish..

My friend tried this Pork dish..quite good too...

This cafe is near Altmarkt Galerie..it's on the way towards tram station-Postplatz..

2nd trip to Germany

Again, it was a tiring day for me after a long flight from Penang to Spore to Frankfurt & finally Dresden. Almost 21 hours altogether.
This time, my feeling was really cold, freezing...We arrived at 11.30am & straight to hotel to check-in. However, there’s no room at that moment. There'll be available room after another 2 hours. Thus, we have to walk to the nearest coffeeshop, my usual asian food, called ‘Flinke Pfanne’ to have lunch.Haha..i ordered my favourite Crispy Duck, or we called it Peking Duck....yum yum...

Then, i dropped by to the supermarket nearby, it was under renovation & things get less there. Anyway, i just want to get a mineral water bottle.

Before headed back to hotel, i had a walk near a park at Stauffenbergallee. Weather was around 1deg C, still OK for me.

Then, a 5 mins walk to Holiday Inn. Immediately, i got my room & had a nice warm bath. Rest & relax time...it was still not enough for me to get a good rest...It was too cold for me to go out for dinner on the 1st night. I was too tired & sleepy & having flu..hmmm...1st day was terrible...
I felt better after a few days. However, i was too lazy to go out as weather was cold, it was -7deg C. So, the nearest restaurant was Stephen Restaurant at Holiday Inn itself. I had a great dinner, i had Fish this time, i ordered Fried Salmon, but there weren’t salmon anymore..It was Mackerel i guess. The waitress did told me, but due to language issue, i did not get what she said. The important thing is it was a nice meal after all.

I ordered a Banana Juice(called Bananensaft); and i like it though...

You can enjoy the liquor there as well...

Muka Head Hike

For those christian, on the very 1st day of X'mas, they will go to churches for celebration.

For us, we chose to go for a healthy activity, we go fro Muka Head hike..

Though we slept late the day before, we managed to wake up & make our way to Teluk Bahang early in the morning by 8am..

After walking for an hr, we stop by a hut & took some pics..
Then, we continue our journey...

We reached the 1st stop beach..happily doing star jump...

Xmas Eve at HRH

We headed to HRH after our luxurious dinner for the countdown...

They have liveband there & lotsa ppl were dancing, singing & going crazy abt it...

Nice X'mas deco at the lobby....the lighting, and the colour combination is so attractive..haha, guess what we spend almost half an hour just at the lobby entrance, taking so many shots on the HRH lights which kept changing color, and the deco beside the entrance....

Then,we headed inside the lobby & saw the Beatles faces with the beautifully tiled structure..and there we go, we pose against it....

Next, headed to the swimming pool side...

X'mas Eve Celebration 2009

I had a great dinner at Fantasy, Batu Ferringhi with my friends.

I ordered Salmon Steak & Mango Juice..Whilst ordering the Salmon Steak, my friend highly recommended me to ask the chef to cook 70/80 for me...and yes, I can tell you, it's mouth-watering, so so delicious..It does maintain the freshness of the salmon meat, the moist & the tenderness of it...look at the pics below..

The boss do gives us complimentary oyster dish for all of us..This is a bonus for us, where this is how it attracts us to come again..a lot of ppl now looking for good services...

The Chef came out & approach us, he gives good packages coursemeal for 8-10pax. We can consider to go if we have functions to celebrate...The ambience was good too...however, bear in mind it's not air-conditioned...

Berlin Trip-Part 1

Our 2nd weekend, we went Berlin & this time we plan to stay overnight. A lesson learned for our Prague trip, we should have stayed overnight coz it was a rush one.
We were searching for information online for accommodation, and then finally I found one which situated very near to the Main Train station (Haupbahnhoft). Just walked out from the entrance & turn left, there you go, you’ll see the hotel just 5mins away. It's called the MEININGER Hotel Berlin Hauptbahnhof. And we are so lucky, they have promotions going on, so we grab it one night before we left to Berlin.

We headed to Berlin early in the morning, took a train from Dresden.

Bad sign, got frost already, means it's very very cold and a cloudy & a gloomy day...:(

Anyway, we enjoyed our train journey as well in the cabin...'Yam Seng' withe our yogurt drink..:p

After 2hrs then, we reached Berlin Main Train Station; it was huge. And i can even feel the coldness inside the train station...When we came out right from the main door, wow, the strong icy wind blew against our face..can feel the numbness in just a second...*shivering*

First thing first, we took a 1 day City Tour Hop On Hop Off Bus to go 1 round & then only we planned where to hang out later. Sad to say,this was also due to the check-in time is 3pm.

There’s several bus agent, so we surveyed the prices before we decided. Of course the higher price, there’ll be more stops;different by ~Euro2.50. So, it depends on you’re the spots you want to drop by… So, we decided to take Euro12.50 1 day trip.

Schloss-Bellevue- This immaculately-looking white neoclassical palace; situated very near the Tiergarten’s northwestern corner. This is the official residence of the German President.

Then, after a 2hrs of sightseeing Berlin; we had an idea of where to drop by later.Thus,we check-in & had a very short break in our hotel room.It was a quite a new hotel & the interior was modern.

My room....The Single Bed Room was not as I expected, coz the room position & angle was weird. It looked so narrow. But the bed & bathroom were clean. So, can’t complain much, it was consider a budget hotel.

Then, we decided to do some jumping shoots...

and guess what, other people around us started to jump too...Cheers.!!!

It would be nice if the lighting up there were arrange in a way for people to capture nice view from there...this should be the best i can get..only a few shoots..

We found most people in Berlin speaks English, so no worry if you get lost or you need to order something...;)

Prague Trip

Heard that Prague is a beautiful place & there we planned a short trip to Prague.We took a 2hrs train from Dresden to Prague for a day trip.

And there, here we go, our cabin in the train..Time flies as we really enjoyed the scenery along the way; it's beautiful.....:)

Tada...we reached Prague finally...Impressive, fabulous, that's what i can say..

Prague which also known as Praha, is the capital & largest city of Czech Republic. A beautiful city rich in history and lies in the heart of Europe. Yes it is true...It’s just so amazing with all the uniqueness of the art & sculptures with the ancient building around you.

It seems Prague is displaying a permanent showcase for outstanding performing artists and sympony orchestras at the city’s classical venues.
Besides that, the city also has many enlightening institution like museum, galleries & theatre.

We saw this Astronomical Clock at the Old Town Hall. Looking at it, it was fantastic. A huge crowd were there to take photos of it. And it seems every hour, there’s a procession of twelve Apostles & Death ringing the bells until a cock crows before they make a move from this unique clock. However, we missed it. A lower part of the tower is decorated by pictures of zodiac signs.

There’s also this Tyn Church which is a main church of the Old Town that was built in the 15th century in Gothic style. Its interior is Baroque. A well-known astronomer and star-gazer of Rudolph II. Tycho de Brahe is buried there.

We walked to an area & saw there’s a foodfair & liveband there. It’s should be a weekend event or something. There’s family get-together & youngster around, dancing & enjoying whilst the live band is playing the music. We went round to search for food there. Lotsa people queing up at almost every stalls, so we joined the crowd.

Then, we saw there’s Hard Rock Café & we went in to have a look & bought something from there.

Journey to Dresden-Germany

I was all excited for my trip to Germany, the area I’m going is Dresden. Although Dresden is not so well known among most of us, but cannot deny that the buildings have beautiful architectures...
Yes, after 12hrs of flight with 3 transits, it was kinda tiring for such a long journey. Then, there we go to the hotel, which is called Quality Plaza Hotel. The facilities were not so complete. To my surprise, it doesn’t have the kettle unit for our usage. Even we asked for it, we were told to upgrade the room.

Anyway, here’s some intro of the history about Dresden [1].It’s the capital of the German federal state of Saxony (Freistaat Sachsen). Located on the Elbe River, it is an industrial, governmental, and cultural center, known worldwide for the Bruehl's Terrace and its historic landmarks in the Old Town (Altstadt). Dresden became a city in 1206 and recently celebrated its 800th birthday in 2006.
The historical center of Dresden was 75% destroyed in a terrible bombing on February 13 and 14, 1945 by allied forces. The date is deeply marked in the history of the city and is still remembered each year in processions and ceremonies. The destruction of the priceless art treasures that made the city world famous was and is felt as a wound to the soul of the people. More than 30,000 people died in the bombing.The ruin of the now rebuilt Frauenkirche acted as a call for peace among the different nations of the world.
The historical center is nowadays largely restored to its former glory, however some parts are still under reconstruction.
Before then,we survey those places of interest in Dresden. And there we go, it’s easy to go around Dresden. There is a combined system of tram (called Straßenbahn), bus and even train, but no subway. It works very well and connects all points of interest, but can be a little busy at peak times. Most lines even run at night time, of course with less capacity at night. This allows you to go out to most places or restaurants without the necessity to use a car. For us, we took a Day Ticket.We can also get a ticket limited to an hour and some others, but Day Tickets are good if you are traveling around and not sure where you will be going and what you will be doing.It’s Euro1.80 per trip.
As with most places in Germany, the public transit operates on the honor system: you are assumed to have a ticket, and there are a few inspectors out spot checking. The exception is on the buses after 8 PM, when the drivers are required to see all tickets. If the inspector found we did not pay for the ticket during spot check, the fine of Euro60 will be charged.
Dresden is a very beautiful, lightspirited city, especially in summer, when you can appreciate the serene setting of the historic center. Although Dresden is larger than Munich when measured by area, the historic center is quite compact and walkable.

Here we go, we went to the Frauenkirche-Church of the Lady. The reconstruction of its exterior was completed in 2004, its interior in 2005 and after 13 years of rebuilding, the church was reconsecrated on 30 October 2005 with festive services lasting through the Protestant observance of Reformation Day on 31 October.

The reconstruction of the Frauenkirche is an impressive symbol of international reconciliation after World War II. The consecration attracted attention throughout the world.More than 2 million people have already visited the Frauenkirche.

The bronze statue of reformer and theologian Martin Luther, which survived the bombings, has been restored and stands in front of the church. It is the work of sculptor Adolf von Donndorf from 1885. And this Church of the Lady was actually built as a Lutheran (Protestant) parish church or city church, even though Saxony's Prince-elector, Frederick August I, was Catholic.

The Frauenkirche is a symbol of conciliation, largely with donations from German and international foundations. The Neumarkt quarter around the church is also to regain its status as the historical heart of the city.

James Foo Western Food-Tanjung Bungah

I was around Tanjung Bungah area last Saturday and were searching for good food around that area for dinner. Then, my cousin sister suggested James Foo Western Food which she heard from her friend for sometime already that the food were good there..It was just next to Fatty Loh Chicken Rice shop..
I would say that the parking was not so convenient there. However, we decided to give it a try & there we go, we make our way to James Foo western food cafe.
When we entered the cafe, there was a door at the righthand side which i thought that's the room with air-conditioned seating. So, we step-in the room & found out it's actually link to the Fatty Loh Chicken Rice Shop. We quickly make a turn out from the room...:p Hmm...I was thinking, were they actually related to each other? but but, i did not asked to clarify that time..Coz i was too hungry & excited to have my food already...
Then, we headed in to look for seats..wow, to my surprise the ambient was quite nice there...

We sat down & realised that we have to order in front; near the entrance. So, for those 1st timer, Order 1st before you find your seats...

We ordered Chicken Maryland (RM8.50) & the Mushroom Soup (RM2.50)

Overall the chicken maryland was good, the fried chicken skin were not too thick, just nice, it's crispy...
The mushroom soup was nice too, it has the 'Angel wings mushrooms'(cut into slices)...and it's quite a big portion...You'll be quite full if you finished up the whole bowl of the mushrooms before u have your maincourse...

There's an incident happened when this mushroom soups were served by this young boy. When he lifted the 2 bowls of the soup, his thumb actually touched the soup, juz a lil'...I saw it right in front of my eyes...kinda shocked & i looked at my cousin sister..then,we decided to call upon the older waiter & asked him to change for us..He was quite angry at that moment when we told him, he wasn't angry at us but the young boy will get punishment, i guess...Maybe he wasn't properly trained or maybe it's just his 1st day helping out there...I don't know what happened to the boy after that, but we got our soup changed; that's the important thing. And the older waiter apologized to us when he replaced the soups for us...

We actually reached there at 630pm, consider quite early..and we had a long chat there..the crowd grew after around 8pm...almost full house...

Here's the main course..

It has deep fried squids, oysters, dory fish, prawns & chips...yummy yummy..it's good, i like the prawn which has the cheezy mayo toppings..it's delicious & fresh..the dory fish were soft & tender...nice...

And the set comes with Bottomless Ice Lemon Tea, guess what i had 2.5 glass of it..

Then, it has the Brownies with ice-cream topping. I would say the brownie is too dry & the ice-cream is too icy...

Cutie lil' piggy Mooncake

I learn to make this lil piggy shape mooncake...it's simple & indeed fun..
we uses a bread maker to bake it....

Ingredients:

1. Alkaline water; 1 tbsp

2. Peanut Oil; 60g

3.Golden syrup; 450g

4.Flour; 600g

Mix all the 4 ingredient as above, then wrap it with polystyrene for 4-5 hrs..

And there goes the fun time. We can start to do the lil'piggy shape....

The body part 1st, then the ear, the nose, the tail. Then for the eye, we use the red bean...:)

This is in-the-progress stage.

Then, after about 15mins, take out the whole tray and brush the lil'piggy with egg yolk....and bake for another 10mins....

Tada...;) here's the results of our 1st time making this lil piggy mooncake..

Hehe, some of it went out of shape..Will improve on that on my next try..

Xiao Er Kopitiam

Since Sunshine Farlim moved to the new building, we haven't been there before.
Thus, we had our pick of the night for our supper at Xiao Er Kopitiam at Sunshine Farlim, the cafe is facing the mainroad..

We ordered the Toast with Peanut Butter and Kaya Butter...It was just a normal toasted bread, i would say..

For the drink, we ordered White Coffee, Mint Tea and Honey Milk..It were all too sweet, and guess what. After we had half of the cup, we asked the waitress to add hot water for us..:(

The Char Siew Pau also normal only... the fillings of the charsiew was too little and it tasted a lil' neutral. And most importantly, it's not hot enough. You all would agree that normally when we have pau or dimsum, we would want it to be hot, right...

About the food and drinks prices, it's almost similar to oldtown kopitiam..

Nasi Ayam Periuk Besar-D'Piazza

So, i give it a try...and saw that this Nasi Ayam Periuk Besar originated from Kulim, Kedah.

They doesn't have much choices on the menu, which my friend told me before..

Thus, this month was a Puasa month so they have a few Ramadhan Promotions...

I ordered the 'Mondrod Rendang Ayam'..the rendang was quite nice, but not that spicy though...and it's chicken strips...not in piece form...

and i had Tea Tarik, it was too sweet for me..

It's an event for UOB Ladies' Club, my friend ask me to go along to this Wacoal fashion show they have during the weekend at the Parkson Gurney. Before i went, i believe most of us, gals will have a mindset that Wacoal designs suits more 'mature' ladies.
And and surprisingly, i guess a lot of the ladies that day were fascinated by the new series design called 'Moi Cree', neo..

Before the fashion show starts, we have teatime which they catered from the Manila Place..the food served was quite nice...:p

Then, here they come, all tall & slim ladies with the new design, nice...

They also have lucky draw during the event, however, my friend & i did not get it..hmmm...

It was not bad after all, as we have doorgifts given by the Wacoal, organized by UOB people.

Gelatissimo – The Real Taste of Italia

First of all, thanks to Jason and Gill for this special arrangement to give us an opportunity to have better understanding of gelatos. Don’t be surprise a lot of people still doesn’t know much about gelatos unlike Australia-origin country, that why I’m actually very excited when I was invited to this as I get the chance to learn about it and then I’ll be able to share it with my friends about the benefit of gelatos.

There's promotion for now:

The process looks easy, all ingredients mix together and put all of it in the chamber for heating first.When it goes up to certain temperature, it’ll then go thru freezing process with a control temperature, and there it comes, the gelato.
Wow, we get to try the freshly made gelato, it was mouth watering, so heavenly, the gelatos has really smooth textures and compact.

The below 2 attractive gelatos photos is from Mr Hong, thanks to him also for providing us a lot of informations.

These days, lots of people will go for more healthy diet. Yeah, this is it...Gelatos actually has less fat content and it’s more healthy compared to ice cream. Ice-cream uses air to pump-out the ice-cream, thus it felt more creamier & not so dense. For gelatos, it needed special freezer to be able to keep the freshness unlike ice-cream. Gelato has shorter lifetime compared to ice-cream which can actually keep for months.

You'll know the differences, go try it & you shall know..

We get to try out the Affogato which is Espresso with gelatos on top. Cooling aromatic espresso just 'drowned' me, I like this even though I’m actually not into espresso…But the combination is just good. My advice to the coffee lover, try this…

Next, we had mango milk shake, it has different kind of feeling, this is fruity, juicy…..And I got to know that a friend of mine love this, she used to have this in Australia-Gelatissimo a few years back..and she tried this Mango Milk Shake here in Penang recently, and she just said ‘Yes, it’s just great. It has just the same taste as before, I remember this taste’…

Hope more and more Malaysian will learn about gelatos and will have positive feedback to keep a healthy lifestyle.

Vintage Bulgaria Restaurant and Bar

It was the Penang Floggers 4th Gathering. I followed my friend to join them for the first time. Once we arrived, we were welcomed by all the friendly floggers. Started with ice-breaking session and had a good chat among the floggers around. We have opening speech by Alan, the organizer for this gathering & then we waited for a while for all the maincourse to come.
It was then all placed on the table & all camera were then focused on it. It’s a normal thing that floggers will take nice nice photos of the delicious food served.
The dinner started quite late, as usual started with soup, I had the Mushroom soup served with ‘vintage’ garlic bread. I actually like the signature garlic bread which has some cheese topping.

There’s another option, the Seafood Soup- tasted like ‘sharkfin soup with slices of carrot’.
My maincourse came the last, coz of huge crowd; they missed my order for the traditional roasted Pork Djolan…The portion is real ‘giant’size...the first quarter of the meal, I enjoyed it…however, it tends to become a bit salty for me...

And Gelatissimo came as well, we has the tasting session & I like the belgian chocolate, green tea and the mango. There were other flavours like berry piviova and rum & raisin as well. I was very very full then…

hmmm, end up I just had 3 scoops of my dessert - choc crème brulee..gosh, I felt so bad that I couldn’t finish it. The crème brulee was a bit too sweet for me…
Last came our coffee which has actually turned cold as the creamer and sugar unable to blend in it. I just had a sip or two of it only…

We enjoyed ourselves there, chatting with new friends there. Thanks to Alan.

And guess what, we were the last few to leave the restaurant.

I would highly recommend you all to go try out the delicious Thai food here at Permatang Tengah, Butterworth…this is my second time there…
I heard that the response was really good & the business has expanded, the boss bought the raw land & extended the restaurant. And it has spacious car park too.
It was raining heavily when we arrived, the restaurant worker offered umbrella to us, this is an extra credit that customer would give.
We ordered Seafood Tomyam, Otak-otak, Jelly Noodle with Crab, Steam Fish with Thai sytle, Kangkung with belacan, Deep Fried Squid.

The tomyam has just the right taste, it’s hot, spicy & sour..Yum yum..and next is the Jelly Noodle, the pepper and the sauce absorbed thoroughly in the jelly noodle, I just love it plus the fresh steam crab which I believe it’s cooked together with the jelly noodle; it has the aroma of the pepper & the sauce as well. Never forget to order the Steam Fish; it’s a must dish you must order if you go there, it’s really fresh, this time we order the Thai style sauce which is very sour & a bit spicy...
The coconut drink was nice too, there’s a nice aroma too, I guess it’s roasted. That’s why it’s different from what we had in other kopitiam. My parents like it very much..

We had a great time there, worth to drive all the way from Pg Island...;p

Thanks to my friend for giving me the cash voucher for Danai Spa. It’s just the correct timing for me for me to rest and relax…after hectic weeks of working late and working hard…
I just need to pamper myself sometimes, and I asked my friend along with me…
We took the Favourite Treats which has special discount at RM195(Usual price RM230) for 2 hrs 30mins. As we understand, this is the oldest favourite package among guests consisting a massage, a scrub and a bath.

First stage, we had our foot bath. Then, we went to the pool for a short while before we headed to the Jacuzzi. At the Jacuzzi pool, we were served with a cup of green tea & biscuits, and of course, we enjoyed warm water massaging our back & enjoyed the scenery there as well..

After about 20mins, we went to our massage room named ‘Balinese’,and as expected the whole room were all decorated with Balinese style. They played nice, very soothing, relaxing music in it..It's fantastic, I would say.... we found that the next door room is ‘English’ style, I managed to
capture the photo of the room..nice.. :)

I did really enjoyed the 90mins of massage, yes, the therapist has really good skill. Then, followed by a scrub, I chose Ginger Salt Glow. The salt they use are sea salt, so, you can imagine the feeling during scrubbing, a bit uneasy coz it’s really rough. Plus the sound of the scrubbing, you’ll be like ‘ouch, ouch, ouch!!’ ..however, the final effect after that was all worth it….
My friend chose the Java Lulur Scrub which is meant for detoxification purposes…it has those herbs aroma, it was indeed a good one though….
Final one, it’s the bath, we had the ‘Muscle Ease Salt Soak’, yes, this is definitely suitable for me. Coz my shoulder aches for sometime already…
Overall, the service was good, the therapists were friendly, and had good massage skills-this is an important point..

It was a worth one after all & meet my expectation…yes, I would recommend you all to go….
It has other packages as well; Ayurveda package, Ultimate Heaven Elemental Facial & Body Well Being. I heard that there’s this Hawaiian Kahuna Massage which is highly recommended too…

I went again to Times Square with my gal friends for a gathering. This time, i tried Tsuruya for the 1st time; although it has one in i-Avenue for sometime already.
Overall, the food were delicious. We ordered the Bento sets- Unagi Set, Katsu Curry Set, Black Pepper Steak Set. Look at the food here, isn't it tempting.

Some of us got tempted with the salad that they saw in the menu, it’s just too attractive-Salmon Salad & the Spicy Tofu Soup as well…The 1st scoop of the spicy tofu…Wow, for those super spicy lover, you'll sure love this.

It was indeed a satisfied meal of my day.Yum yum….Service was good too.

We had a good time there, enjoyed chatting there as well.

Results of the Peace Run 2009

It was raining heavily & strong wind at around 640a.m. when we reached Scotland Rd.; we were thinking, maybe the organizer will cancelled it. However, when we reached Youth Park, the rain stop; just drizzling… so, there we go, we parked our car & walked to the registration area.
We started running at 745a.m.; not actually running at the starting point due to the crowd. We just started to run when we on the street. Yes!! I was indeed quite satisfied with my results, I finished the run in around 45 minutes.And of course, we got the certificate.

Free flow of SunTonic Isotonic drink after that. We were just hanging around there wanted to wait for the lucky draw event. We gave up after waited for almost 2 hr for the final lucky draw to start but it didn't. Gees..I missed my DimSum that morning. End up we had our lunch. :(

Peace Run 2009

This is an event to create mutual respect among individuals of different race, age and also those with different abilities to build a stronger bond among Malaysians for a peaceful Malaysia.
And yes...I'm going for Peace Run this Sunday morning & I’m just looking at the route map now….and worst still, i did not do any exercise recently,no hiking, no jogging.
At least, if i had done it, it'll build up some stamina…
Yes, even though it’s only 6km run…
Hmmm…Let’s just see what’s gonna happen to ME…

I find this book very meaningful..it's like a manual of life...'Awaken the Giant Within' by Anthony Robbin...
He has been well known of using firewalk method in his seminars.
One must be wondering why does he use firewalk?
Yes, before we walk on the fire, first we have to imagine that our Goal is right in front of you...then, when you are ready, walk straight & of course in a fast pace....
That's how we overcome our fear & achieve our goal...
Isn't it fantastic ??

In this real world, we will face a lot of criticisms or challenges in life...Thus, with a few techniques taught here, we can use it in our daily life...you'll be amazed at the results..

Bukotsu Ramen House

This was 1st suggested by my friend to have a farewell lunch as there were set lunch promotions...
All of us ordered Ramen as this is their specialty...and there's newspaper wrote about this Bukotsu that the boss went over to Japan to learn all about Ramen & now open a shop here..

Indeed yes..the ramen is nice...

Most of us took the Volcano Ramen, there's Hokkaido Ramen, Butter Ramen,Kimuchi Ramen & of course the Signature Bukotsu Ramen...Yummy yummy...delicious..
And the Kare karaege..although it's deep fried, you know that the fish is fresh..recommended by the boss..

Some complimentary appetizer; deep fried 'cheese wrapped in pohpiah skin'..some of my friend like it, some doesn't...those cheese lover will like it...
Besides searching for good food, I always look good service as well..Yes, bukotsu has good service..and i'm looking forward to go again...
